Wow, what a retrospective review! I admit, I was scrolling down hoping I'd find Roberta Flack on your list, one of my favorite vocalists of all time. And there she was. I didn't know she was born in 1937. That was a little bit of a shocker.
You write awesome Hubs...I'm off to become your fan, and have a Scotch or two while I watch and listen to all these fantastic videos.
Best regards, Sally
This is a great hub. I was glad to see Joan Baez on your list. I went to see her this weekend and she is still an incredible singer at 68 years old. It was a wonderful surprise to see that she was still touring and I felt lucky to be able to get tickets. She is definitely worth seeing if she comes to your area.
Great list! But where is Linda Ronstadt??? She was HUUUUGE in the 70's and, unlike a lot on that list has proven her own longevity and artistic merit.:)
x
Very helpful hub! This will be the hub to visit again and again when I want to revisit the songs of the 70's - the inspiring 70's. Thanks Triple Mom for your effort in putting here the videos of these great female singers.
Great list! Such wonderful artists you have here, and quite an eclectic mix too! And if I might add Dione Warwick :D
It's okay, I won't tell her! Just "walk on by" LOL
Oh wow TM - that is a great list - and sooo nostalgic! I will come back and watch the videos - though I love them all, I guess Carole King and Stevie Nicks will always have a special place in my heart!
Yeah Shalini Tapesty rocks! What's your favorite Fleetwood Mac song?
Yes Cris - Tapestry rocks! You've Got A Friend is one of my fave all time songs! And I love the old Fleetwood Mac numbers when Peter Green was still part of the group (see how ancient i am haha!) - Green Manalishi, Black Magic Woman, Rattlesnake Shake...and post Stevie Nicks - You make Loving Fun, Landslide, Gypsy ....actually all of them - but some I guess some are a bit more special than others :)
I love my Tapesty album, one of the best ever! And I agree with you on Fleetwood, almost every song's great! :D
i like your hub
Very sensible advice, thanks for your hub.
I was looking on the internet for the name of a girl Singer of the 60's and was sure she was British. She sang heart wrenchingly, and was gorgeous. Also she became Gay, according to a show I saw of her.Well, because of this last thing possibly fact, it seems it must have been Dusty Springfield. But the show must have focused on her performances while she was fairly Young, for I did not remember some of these other Preacher Man songs being attributed to her.Still, maybe it was not Dusty?Anyway, no other name seems to stick out.
It was great to see that the information helping me was from a Hub Page.So I had to sign in and lend mt kudos to you for an excellent Hub.
Hi TM, Wow! The girls are in da HOUSE! You've covered them all. Brings back soooo many memories. The songs we grew up to, eh?
I am pretty sure the singer Barry is referring to IS Dusty Springfield. I saw not too long ago a documentary about her and it said she was gay. Not that that has any bearing whatsoever on her singing!
You've listed the best of the best! Time for me to put on some Aretha right now. :)
In the past there were art and good music, if you had a great voice you can be a great singer, nowadays, all is image, media management, whow the artist is promoted forgetting if the singer is good or not, I LIKE YOUR HUB
Regards from Peru

A DIVERSE GROUP OF WOMEN, AND YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT!! I'M A BIG FAN OF THE 70'S AND A MUSIC FANATIC. GREAT HUB!!
Triplet Mom, thanks for reminding me of all these fabulous female singers. I was thinking, not long ago, when we were talking about music, that back in the 70's, I practically only listened to women singers. After reading this hub, I realize why. I could sit here all day listening to the videos. Wonderful, wonderful hub!
I was going to mention the exclusion of Linda Ronstadt, but noticed someone else already brought it up. This is a great list, you really know your music.
What a great Hub! Interesting, informative. I have albums by many of these women, and am a great fan of some. Really enjoyed reading! All the best, Camlo
excellent

Great List! So many of my favorites included. Appreciate the photos and videos!

Can anyone help me find the a song sung by a female artist which was famous during the end of 60's and bigining of 70's. It runs with lines like "just a little love and understanding". I used to hear in radio (Cylon broadcasting corporation.
U.K singer Elkie Brooks deserves a mention here. With "Vineger Joe " or solo Elkie Brooks is one of the finest female singers from the U.K.

What about Melanie? So influential and so overlooked.
Triplet Mom, I salute you! This HUB is da bomb-dig-geddee!! What an awesome tribute to the female singers who influenced my growth and development! I have to share this HUB on Facebook. I placed a link to your HUB after one of my HUBs. Do you realize you could have a written a separate HUB for each one of these sisters? Seriously! They were influential.
I'm following your HUBs now, Triplet Mom.
P.S. Your profile pic is adorable!
What about OLivia Newton-john?? she was huge during the 70's & early 80's.....
Missing from your list is Olivia Newton-John, one of the most successful female singers of the 1970s. She had 3 #1 Billboard Hot 100 singles in the 70s: "Have You Never Been Mellow", "I Honestly Love You", and "You're The One That I Want" from the movie "Grease".
Olivia also won 3 Grammys in 1973-1974.
Hey Trip, great run-down on the top gal singers.Karen Carpenter was the best, and had she lived a lot longer, would have been bigger than even Sinatra.I'm just sayin...........
Nice post. Meanwhile, I'm looking for a female singer, maybe folk, that sing with an acoustic guitar. She is more like reading a poem than singing a song. I heard her in early 1980s. Anybody know the singer's name with such style?
This list is soooooo incomlete . NO!!! Elkie Brooks. Elkie Brooks has a GREAT voice.

Lotta excellent singer songwriters here ! Joni Mitchell and Carole King are extraordinary In this regard .And Aretha will always be the queen ! Although she shoulda lost the hat at the Inaguration ! Not one modern singer at the grammys tonite can hold a candle to any of these talents you listed here !My particular favorite Is Patti Smith who was punk and artsy before that genre hit Its stride In the late 70s
